If any dog deserves a eulogy, it's Possum so here goes Growing up I always LOVED animals, probably more than they loved me (think Elmyra from Tiny Toons but less extreme). Once I was an adult, I knew I wanted a dog of my own (we had family dogs growing up). My sister, Stephanie Dassinger Engebretson, whom I look up to, had adopted a dog, so I was inspired to adopt a dog as well. I started following local rescues on Facebook (we were living Greenville, NC at the time). Joey didn't want to adopt a dog out of wedlock (lol) so I waited until after we got married to get serious about adopting. A week after we got married, I applied to meet "Practically Perfect Possum" at Cause-n-Dog rescue in Snow Hill, NC. Much to my delight, they called and asked if we'd like to come meet her! When we went to meet Possum, she was not interested in us at all, not even a little bit. Tyra Scroggins convinced us she'd come around so we adopted her! We rushed straight to Petsmart before they closed because we didn't have a single thing for her! It turned out Possum was the perfect fit for us. When I worked nights, Possum would sleep all night with Joey, I'd take her for a walk When I got home and she'd sleep all day with me (Joey would take her out while he was home for lunch). Possum was also the perfect travel companion. She traveled and flew more than some people. She visited ND and MT numerous times and surprisingly she enjoyed the snow . Possum graciously accepted her sisters, Brooklyn and Pocus, and several additional foster siblings (although she admittedly hated puppies). Tinker was one of her favorite fosters because he didn't mind when she'd steal his food Adopting Possum was my inspiration to get involved with rescue and to become an advocate for homeless dogs. A large portion of my time has been spent walking dogs, fundraising, and meeting potential adopters, all thanks to Possum. A couple days ago, Possum started vomiting and it just progressively got worse. She ended up having emergency surgery where they found a large pancreatic mass which her vet suspects was pancreatic cancer. Joey and I had to make the incredibly gut-wrenching decision to let her go We are comforted knowing that Possum had the life we wish ALL dogs could have. Possum was loved unconditionally and if love could have saved her, she'd still be here with us. This isn't goodbye but until we meet again over the rainbow bridge ---- Haylee & Joey Robinson
